Rohypnol is a sleeping medication prescribed for the treatment of insomnia in Asia, Central Europe, South America and Mexico. The drug has is a member of the benzodiazepine family which also includes Xanax, Valium and Librium. Rohypnol has been referred to as the “date rape drug,” because the drug is tasteless and odorless and can be slipped into a carbonated beverage and undetected by the user, rendering them unconscious and incapacitated.
The sedative and toxic side effects of Rohypnol are aggravated when using the drug with alcohol, however, even without alcohol; Rohypnol can still impair a victim for up to 12 hours. Though Rohypnol is usually taken orally, the drug can also be cut up and snorted. The effects of the drug begin within 30 minutes of ingesting and usually peak within 2 hours and effects can last for up to 8 hours, depending upon the amount taken. The side effects of an addiction to Rohypnol can be devastating and if a person wants Rohypnol treatment, entering a rehab center for Rohypnol could be the answer.
