Peabody Narcotic Drug Abuse Statistics

Peabody, with a population of 53,000, is a city located in Essex County of Massachusetts. It was founded in 1626 and was finally incorporated as a city in 1629. Peabody was initially known by names like Northfields, Brooksby and The Farms.

The citys name was changed to Peabody on April 30th, 1968, when it was named after the noted philanthropist George Peabody and was formally incorporated as city in 1916. Farming was the main occupation of the first inhabitants of this city, but it soon became one of the major centers of the leather industry. Now, most of the tanneries have closed, but still it is known as Tanner City or Leather City, and even its high school sports team is known as the Tanners. Peabody was ranked by Forbes Magazine as the 14th most livable town in the US in 2009.

Peabody MA is a peaceful town with an incident or two reported every month due to illegal substance abuse and alcoholism. Methadone drug addiction is the most common problem which is experienced by the Peabody citizens. Methadone is an opioid and a narcotic medication which is used as an alternative to heroin or other narcotic drugs that are widely abused.

Methadone was discovered almost 500 years ago by the Germans. Some people believe that this synthetic receptor was developed, as Hitler wanted an alternative to morphine, whose shortage was observed during the Second World War. Methadone was earlier made available by the name Dolophine, and its name is believed to have been named after Adolf Hitler. Even though Methadone was discovered during that time, its analgesic properties were understood only after the world war.

Methadone is available in the form of a liquid, tablet, and also as an injection ampoule. These prescribed medicines are consumed orally or injected into the bloodstream by people using it for substance abuse. Methadone is not as powerful as heroin, but it provides the user with the same less intense effect. After using Methadone, a person feels euphoric and a feeling of warmth seeps in.

The abuse of Methadone slows down a persons pulse, lowers body temperature, and makes the eye pupils shrink over time. Though the substance is used for treating heroin addiction, it is a favorite among abusers due to its highly addictive nature.

Some of the side effects observed in patients using Methadone for drug abuse include drowsiness, lightheadedness, weakness, bloating of the body, water retention, and allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, or itching of the skin. During Methadone substance abuse, a person may also experience severe headache, dizziness and may behave like a drunk.

Methadone drug addiction involves taking higher dosage of this medicine then what has been prescribed by the doctors. Methadone substance abuse also involves using this drug in combination with alcohol and other illegal substances, and in some cases, this drug is sold in order to procure heroin. Methadone substance abuse treatment should be carried out under the guidance of an expert who can help the person overcome the problem of Methadone substance abuse without relapsing into the habit of consuming heroin.
