Emporia Narcotic Abuse Statistics

Along the Kansas Turnpike, at its intersection with Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 50, lies the city of Emporia. Its 108 miles (174 km) southwest of Kansas City and 58 miles (93 km) southwest of Topeka. With a population of 26,760 Emporia is the county seat of Lyon County, Kansas and also the principal city of the Emporia Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Lyon and Chase counties. Drug abuse statistics in Emporia Kansas portray a pretty upsetting picture.

Located on upland prairie, Emporia was founded on 20 February 1857, drawing its name from ancient Carthaginian Africa. Emporia is particularly known for its newspaper, the Emporia Gazette, published in the first half of the 20th century by the legendary newspaperman William Allen White. The paper became the widely perceived model of excellence in small-town journalism.

In 1953, Emporia was the site of the first Veterans Day observance in the United States. Its reported that it was a local shoe cobbler named Alvin J King urged U.S. Representative Edward Rees to introduce legislation in The United States Congress to rename Armistice Day as Veterans Day. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill into law on October 8, 1954

The Neosho River flows along the northern side of the city. The Cottonwood River, one of its tributaries, flows along the city's southern edge and two large city parks, Peter Pan and So dens Grove; the two rivers meet near the eastern boundary of Emporia and flow southeast to join the Arkansas River in Oklahoma.

Emporia sees a lot of traffic and transport bulk both from the North-South routes as well as the East-West routes. But this does pose a problem when it comes to crime. The intricate roadways and network of railways make it easy for drug peddlers to build systematic and successful drug traffic routes in Emporia. By keeping their best quality cocaine and other drugs off the streets; the Mexicans have successfully make Emporia a thoroughfare route for transporting drugs.

Keeping in mind the advantage of the place as a transit point, the Mexican drug dealers rarely let damaging products like pure methamphetamines and cocaine lose on the market. Instead, little quantities of marijuana and some prescription medications keep the local authorities off the trail of the narcotics passing through Emporia.

The KSDO and DEA are authorities responsible for keeping narcotics and drugs off the streets; and they have seen activities in and around the Emporia area as drugs from Southern entry States like California and Arizona make it across to Northern markets via these routes. Being an obscure city, and with some industrial presence, meth-labs manufacturing cheap methamphetamines also seek advantage by using the easy availability of raw chemicals and instruments to make their substances.

The incidence of substance abuse in Emporia is soft compared to the amount of drugs traveling through. In fact nothing much but marijuana and alcoholism seems to hold much sway over restless youth and students. With the authorities observing strict vigil, more stringent steps must be taken to curb the menace of substance abuse in Emporia Kansas.
