Drug abuse is clearly an obsessive and regular abuse of any drug for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons are to feel calm and void of the reality of personal problems. Other reasons are to dull the anxiety that problems cause or to fight the debilitation of depression. Victims of drug abuse do need support from their family members, good friends and other associates. However, there is a fine line between supporting them and enabling them. Some may think that they are offering support, but only acting as enablers. This is why a lot of family members need to be educated about drug use and the effects of it. Drug rehabilitation is usually most effective in a drug rehab facility that caters specifically to those who are dependent on drugs. Drug rehab statistics indicate that there are many drug abusers in the United States and around the world. The problem is never going away. An estimate has been done by the National Survey on Drug Use that there are at least over twenty two million people in America that need drug addiction treatment. From this number, the ones that do get help are smaller in percentage and the remainder does not get any type of help to fight their drug problem. There are over one million people that use drugs who will admit that they know that they needed treatment at some time during their drug use, but did not take any measures to seek help. Some of these same people say that family members have sought help for them, but they have declined. The teenage percentage of drug rehab statistics as it pertains to drug abuse is reported to be among individuals who are victims of peer pressure. The figure is quite alarming. About two million teenagers who are from 12 to 17 years of age indulge in some type of drug abuse during their teenage years. Marijuana is usually the drug of choice. Of that number, only about eight percent receive any type of drug rehab treatment. Some teenagers are being seen as graduating from marijuana to hard drugs such as cocaine, and heroin as well as prescription drugs. If this form of drug abuse is found out in time, it is easier to apply treatment and be successful at it. A change in behavior is usually what indicates the use of drugs for teenagers. Getting rehabilitated is definitely the initial step to take. Drug rehabilitation is effective if the person undergoes a structured treatment program. A lot of drug centers that specialize in such treatment will find more success than others. If the drug addict cooperates with treatment and family members are supportive, it is easier to recover. An assessment of the individual who has completed a rehab treatment program has about a forty percent success rate. Drug abuse and addiction is a big problem and can be considered as a disease. Sobriety can be erased in an instant if the person reverts to their old friends and old ways. However, it is better that someone who is on drugs get the right treatment for a better chance of sobriety and a life that is normal. Of course, four people out of ten will resort back to their old habit, but that is the chance one has to take. |
