Drug addiction in Port St. John
The city of St. John can be found in the state of Florida occupying 3.8 sq miles of land. It is neighbor to Cocoa and Titusville and has a population of 12,112 residents. Incorporation was discussed for this little town in the year 2002 but as of yet, they have not come to any decisions about incorporation for this town. As it turns out, many of the residents within the five communities to be incorporated, were not even aware that they were to be a part of the incorporation. This has halted the incorporation for a number of years. This is not the only problem this city faces though, it seems that this town has some unresolved issues with drug addiction.
Much of the high drug addiction in Port St John Florida is due to the large presence of drug trafficking groups. Street groups that hold connections in the city as well as in other locations nation wide, sell drugs on a street level to residents. While they are not the biggest contributors, they are still the key players to the retail level drug distribution.
In the urban spaces, African Americans are the major contributors of distribution at retail levels. While in suburban areas, it is the Hispanic gangs who are the most prominent retail drug distributors. These gangs are very competitive. They violently protect their drug selling space. In fact, much of the drug related gang violence is due to the competition for drug turfs. Gang member have even been known to fight amongst their own members for control.
Recently, there has been a rise in drug and gang related violence. It is likely linked to the Mexican drug cartels moving in on drug selling turfs in the area. It is also due to the small and growing amount of mixed groups that hold ties within the nation. Sometimes, drugs are traded for illegal weapons which also increases the drug related violence.
Drug organizations are adding to the Port St John FL Drug abuse treatment admissions by having larger rising ties within the nation. The Crips and Latin Kings as well as other local gangs are becoming more active in the distribution of drugs. They are most active in the sale of crack and cannabis on the streets. In addition to the distribution, the Latin Kings are also known for their rising acts of violence.
Local street gangs also play a part in the resident substance abuse in Port St John Florida. This is because they are very active on the streets. They are known to sell cocaine in both powder and crack forms as well as cannabis and additional illegal drugs. Local gangs are of Hispanic and African American races as well as affiliation by community location. These groups thrive from the profits received by drug distribution and protection money within the city.
The state has been hard at work to control the drug related violence of street gangs. In 2008, the governor brought into law the HB 43. This bill includes a felony life sentence for anyone found to be involved in the bringing together of gangs or anyone found to be the source of money for a gang. This as well as efforts from Port St John Florida drug abuse treatment centers could possibly be the key to controlling drug related crime and addictions.
