How Does a Drug Rehab Florida Work?
When we see someone we love struggling with an overwhelming drug addiction, it can be a very disturbing reality. Most people know that using drugs is wrong, but for those that are unable to make the separation between addiction and normalcy, drugs offer an escape from the problems and stresses being experienced. Not only is the addicted person risking everything in life that is important, but the effect on the family and other loved ones is very traumatic. If an addict has been engaging in daily use of the drug of choice and cannot stop using through personal choice, it is going to be necessary to contact a drug rehab Florida program to get clean.
When someone has been abusing drugs for a long period of time and cannot function any longer, it is time to consider options other than remaining stuck in the cycle of addiction. Often when an addicted person has had enough of leading a miserable, drug addicted lifestyle, the individual may be receptive to going into a rehab program. However, even for the addict that is ready and willing to make a change in their life, there will still be questions about what can be expected in drug rehab and how it can help them get off of drugs. The answers to these types of questions are best addressed by contacting a drug rehab center and arranging for a consultation with the staff in order to get a better understanding.
In reality, all drug rehab treatment programs are not the same and to say this would be a blanket statement. Each facility has its own principles, beliefs and protocols, which vary from place to place and what works for one person will not always be good for another, which is why there are different types of rehabs to pick from. The biggest deciding factor when considering a drug rehab center is the attitude of the addicted person. Is the individual ready to confront the addiction or are they flip-flopping back and forth between truth and denial? If the addict is not serious about making rehab work in their life, then relapsing is likely or the person could be asked to leave the treatment center for breaking the rules if they abuse drugs or alcohol while in treatment.
A vast majority of people dealing with a drug addiction problem will attempt to get clean through their own efforts, but this is not a long-term solution. When an individual is addicted to drugs like heroin, methamphetamine or crack cocaine, it is not just as simple as to just walk away and say no when the urge hits. Because of the psychological pull and extreme mental and physical cravings for the drug, the addict is drawn and unable to resist the urge to use the drug of choice. Habitual use of drugs is extremely dangerous to a person’s health and the individual risks losing their job, family, friends, home, children and everything else that matters in life. Instead of continuing to go down such an unpredictable path, it is a much better idea for the addict to face the situation with honesty and agree to seek treatment.
For an addicted person to make the most of the drug rehab experience, it is important to select a program that utilizes a wide variety of treatment options. Traditional programs use standard medical care and therapy, educational classes, counseling, 12-step meetings and teach life skills to the addict. Another approach could include the use of Christianity for drug rehab purposes, which means the program resembles a traditional program in the treatment aspects, but goes a step further and uses the word of God and Christian tenets to help in healing. There are also holistic or all natural programs that incorporate spirituality, exercises, nutrition, meditation and other services for the rehab client. Which one would work best for a client can only be determined after doing an interview and assessment to see what the person’s needs are and then planning a course of treatment to address those specific areas.
Once a person has made the conscientious choice to enter into a drug rehab program, the individual will be given an assessment by medical staff and rehabilitation specialists. Once it has been determined what the person needs, the treatment center can prescribe a variety of services designed to help the individual adjust to becoming clean. Once the body is coming down off the drugs, a person may experience withdrawal symptoms which may require detox, if this is the case, it will be provided under medical supervision and the individual will be made as comfortable as possible.
After the addict’s body has purged itself safely from the toxins of drug abuse, a person can then graduate onto other areas of healing now that the mind and body are healthier. The next phase of treatment in a drug rehab is diagnosis and therapy, especially if someone has an underlying mental illness. A physician will recognize if a person is dealing with dual diagnosis and will prescribe the appropriate course of action to treat someone dealing with mental illness coupled with substance abuse. The mental illness can be stabilized and the person can receive ongoing therapy to deal with the addiction, as well as the mental health issues simultaneously.
The next phase of treatment in drug rehab requires the client to participate in group, family and individual counseling sessions. Through counseling an addicted person can come to terms with the reasons that brought about the addiction, can make amends for the behavior and learn positive coping skills which will help prevent a relapse in the future. With family therapy an addicted person and the family can come together and talk about how the addiction has affected them and can put the pieces of a shattered relationship back together again. Through attending group counseling and therapy, an addicted person is shown they are never alone and though they may feel guilty, it is a burden others are familiar with as well.
All of the services and programs offered by a drug rehab Florida are designed to help an addicted person beat the addiction and go on to have a clean and sober life. Though it takes time, effort and dedication on the part of an addict, for those that want a normal life again, it is not impossible through electing to enroll into a rehab center. There is no reason why you should continue living life drowning in addiction any longer, so contact a drug rehab program today and find out more information about turning your life around.
