Problems Faced at a Rehab Center
Alcohol and drug rehab centers around the country do their best to provide a perfect treatment plan to the addicts. An addict comes to a rehab center in a pitiful condition and to expect him to follow a treatment plan calmly and be patient about it, is a bit too much to expect. An addicts mind is obsessed with the drug he is addicted to and it takes a long time to eradicate this obsession. An addict goes through a number of troubles while undergoing treatment at an alcohol and drug rehab center:
- The first meeting of the patient with torture is during the detox process. The patient has to practice complete abstinence and on top of that he has to deal with other withdrawal symptoms. The process becomes unbearable to him and his physical and mental dependency on drugs speaks out loud. The behavior of the patient changes and he may get violent or go into depression for a long time. It is not tough to suddenly give up a drug that you have been addicted to for a very long time.
- A patients perception of drugs is a positive one and most patients believe that drugs are good for them. Addicts believe that drugs keep them happy and give them the peace they have always wanted. Some patients also believe that drugs are a way to achieve higher levels of spirituality. When an addict comes to a rehab center and starts with the treatment, it makes no sense to encourage him about quitting drugs and carrying out the daily tasks with zeal and vigor. This encouragement might backfire and the patient could get cranky and feisty. It takes a lot of time for the patient to understand the disadvantages of drugs and alcohol.
- A patient has to learn a number of new things while he undergoes the rehab program. Learning an art like meditation is no joke and the patient has to focus on the task in order to be successful at it. Given that an addicts power of concentration is down the drains, it makes it tougher for an addict to learn new things like yoga exercises and meditation.
- Over the course of treatment, a feeling of guilt settles inside the patient and this feeling of guilt stops him from gaining his confidence back. Getting over this feeling of guilt and forgiving himself for the sins done in the past is something that is extremely tough for a person undergoing treatment for drug addiction. However if the staff members are supportive, the patient learns to engage in activities like praying and confessing, which further helps him get over the feeling of guilt and remorse.
The above mentioned points make it tough for the patient to stay calm during the rehab program and therefore kids are advised to never engage in drugs. Even during the rehab program, the patient is mentally disoriented and it takes a lot of effort to bring the patient on the right track.
