What Can Trigger a Relapse in the Recovery of Addiction?

Each person who makes it to the last stages of recovery from an addiction may have to deal with different issues which can trigger a relapse. These triggers will cause the cravings for drugs or alcohol to come on strong. However, when recovery is reached at a christian treatment center, an addict learns to have faith in God and to avoid giving in to these cravings.

One of the biggest kinds of triggers for an addict is the company they keep. If their friends continue to indulge in drinks or drugs, this will act as a trigger for the patient causing him or her to have a relapse. Many recovering addicts completely abandon these circles of so called friends to keep from having a temptation of relapse. While this is probably a good idea for many, what about those with family members who are also into drugs? Are these addicts supposed to just turn their backs on these family members to stop their cravings of a drug or alcohol? This is when learning to have faith in God is going to be the very thing that pulls an addict away from that craving. It may also even beneficial for that other family as well.

One of the parts of recovery that is so hard is turning off those cravings when you are out and around active society. The best part about going to a christian treatment center to get off drugs and alcohol is the life skills you will take away with you. The faith that you will learn to have is going to help you in more life altering situations than just those cravings for the drugs and alcohol. That faith is going to get you through crisis after crisis that may lend hard times that will cause you to want to falter and have a little something just to take the edge off. All you need for the edge is God.

Even when an addict leaves rehab in full recovery there is always that chance that a situation will arise that may be deeply stressful and may cause tremendous agitation. This agitation can lead to the kind of frustration that will bring on a severe craving. It will be really hard during these times, especially the first few times around, to have complete faith that God will handle that particular situation. However, each time that God works and small miracle occurs, your faith will become stronger and stronger.

Craving drugs and alcohol will be a part of your recovery. It is a given that you are going to have to deal with them through out the rest of your life. These cravings will always be a monkey on your back, but having faith in God is going to mean that monkey will keep sliding off and losing his grip more often than ever.

If you are trying to get off drugs or if you are trying to stop drinking, then stop trying to do it alone. Getting help at a christian treatment center is the best step you can take in a successful recovery and the start of the life that God intended for you.
