Christian Substance Abuse Treatment

Our Christian Program staff consists of professionally trained clinicians who are committed Christians.  They are dedicated to providing Christ centered counseling and the integration of sound psychological practices in the recovery process.  Our clients and their family members can be reassured that our treatment will not conflict with Scripture.

We believe that the best treatment will take place when all aspects of a person's life are addressed.  We provide personally designed care to treat the entire person - emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Individual Therapy - Clients will participate in individual sessions with committed Christian clinicians.  We design our treatment for each client based on their individual needs and treatment objectives.  Clients will be presented Biblically and psychologically sound guidance throughout the recovery process.

Group Therapy - Participating in group therapy allows an individual to develop new ways of relating to themselves, others, and God.  During group therapy, people begin to see that they are not alone and can be helped.   In our Christian groups we provide both sound Biblical teachings integrated with solid clinical practices.

In addition to participating in our traditional treatment groups (i.e Life Skills, Relapse Prevention, Addiction Education etc). We offer a substantial curriculum of Christ Centered groups.  Here is a brief overview of some of the Christian topics/groups that are covered during a client’s course in treatment:

  • Conquering Chemical Dependency: A Christ Centered 12-Step Process
    • Client’s are helped to successfully integrate Biblical principles and the traditional 12-step process.
  • Christian Spiritual Disciplines
    • Teaching clients how a disciplined spiritual life can lead to freedom.  Examples of topics covered are prayer, meditation, study, submission, confession, and service.
  • Addiction and Grace
    • Helping clients explore the physical/spiritual/psychological/moral components of addiction and the addictive cycle from a Biblical perspective.
  • Practicing the Art of Daily Devotions
    • Teaching clients how to integrate a daily time in Scripture and learning how to apply scripture practically to their daily lives and recovery.
  • Lessons learned from Biblical Characters
    • Applying lessons learned from the narratives of different Biblical characters.  Including overcoming dire circumstances, forgiveness, grace, and trusting God.
  • Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No (A Christian Perspective)
    • Many people have unhealthy boundaries in their lives.  This group helps our clients apply Biblical principles to setting reasonable boundaries in order to have a more fulfilling life.
  • Guided Imagery / Theophostic Healing
    • Many of our clients have traumatic histories. The goal of theophostic counseling is to lead a person to Jesus for healing and allow Him to reveal the truth to the suffering person.  Through the process of guided imagery we invite the Holy Spirit to support the healing of these past memories. We utilize cognitive behavioral techniques to support this process and assist in the reframing the clients thoughts and traumatic memories.
  • Life Stories/ Christian Testimonies
    • Client’s are assisted in sharing their Christian life testimony and the redemptive power that can be found in their brokenness.
  • Identity in Christ
    • Many of our groups support the clients in discovering their identify in Christ. Cognitively reframing their self view and assisting each client to begin see self as God sees self. Releasing feelings of guilt, shame, and poor self esteem.
  • Identifying the Pain Beneath The Addiction
    • Identify and understand the pain that drives the addiction, and allowing God to begin the healing. Understanding suffering and pain from a biblical perspective.

Celebrate Recovery / Traditional 12-Step Meetings - Multiple times throughout the week our client’s participate in Celebrate Recovery fellowships at local churches.  They meet together for fellowship and to celebrate God´s healing power through Jesus Christ in our lives. Each client is also required to take part in traditional 12-step recovery groups.  Celebrate recovery and other Christ Centered support groups are simply not as wide spread as traditional 12-step groups (AA, NA etc).  It is vital for successful recovery that our Christian clients feel comfortable recognizing that their “higher-power” is Jesus Christ and be able to express their faith as part of the traditional model of recovery.

Daily Quite Time – Clients are allocated time daily for reflections, prayer, devotions and study. Client’s are encouraged to utilize this time on a daily basis.

Bibliotherapy – This is an expressive therapy that uses an individual's relationship to the content of books, poetry and other written words as therapeutic practice.  Clients are provided reading materials as well as a list of suggested reading materials.  These materials include suggested scriptures, books that focus on spiritual formation as well as psychoeducation topics related to addiction.

Church - While in our care, client’s participating in our Christian program are provided the opportunity to attend Church services on a weekly basis.   According to the research of Kendler, M.D., and Myers, M.S. from the American Psychiatric Association, church attendance is one of the most consistent predictors of abstinence from substance use.  We believe that Christian community is one of the best ways to help prevent relapse and support our client’s in living a transformed life.
