The authorities in the state face an uphill battle in order to try and get as many people into rehabilitation as possible. For some unexplainable reason, the amount of people who were actively receiving support for the drug addiction which they were battling with decreased by 20,000 between 2004 and 2005 - a drop that had many experts throughout the state scratching their heads. The organizations and authorities altering the drug scene

According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, there are some three separate organisations which have been established in order to soften the impact that drugs are having on the communities and workplaces in the state of Virginia. They are:

 The Governor's Office for Substance Abuse Prevention, which is commonly abbreviated to GOSAP. The main focus of this organisation is to highlight the dangers of illegal drugs to youth - an area which is seen to be grossly underserved by authorities in both Virginia and all of its neighboring states. Some of the aims of GOSAP are to try to lower the statistics which suggest 44% of all students will go on to try marijuana at some point during their social careers.

 The Substance Abuse Reduction Effort pretty much does what the same suggests, with the main emphases resting on drug dealers and those who are using drugs recreationally. The hope is that those who are only dabbling in drugs are able to be stopped before their usage turns into something more significant that only a Christian rehab in Virginia can treat.

 Virginia also has its own branch of Meth Watch, which is a movement which tries to raise awareness of the detrimental effects that methamphetamine labs can have on a local community. Through workplaces, the primary objective of this non-profit organisation is to allow people to become more observant for signs that a person is abusing methamphetamines on a frequent basis.

All of these institutions run alongside the main governmental authorities that work with the purpose of confiscating drugs of the streets that have been primed for sale by others. There have been significant achievements by the authorities too, with 100 kilograms of marijuana and 20,000 plants being confiscated during 2006 alone. This is in addition to hundreds of vehicles and weapons which are used by drug trafficking organisations to distribute illegal substances throughout the state without detection.
