The Centre for Substance Abuse research is just one of the organisations in the state which is trying to make a difference, and it is based at the University of Maryland. The objective of the centre, which is commonly abbreviated to CESAR, is to identify the problems that drugs pose to the individuals, families and communities of the state of Maryland - as well as to address them as best as possible.

 The research and statistics which are established by CESAR have become extremely valuable for the state authorities who are trying to reduce the negative impact that drugs can have on the state. One of the many ways in which the organisation has become a hub for information has been by introducing fact sheets of information to the public which have aimed to debunk the myths that surround drugs whilst also providing the truth about the implications that substance abuse can have.

 One of the main bodies that are related to the issue of drugs in Maryland is the Drug Enforcement Administration, which is commonly shortened to DEA. This organisation is an arm of the US Department of Justice, and, as you would expect, their principle aim is to enforce the laws and regulations that surround drugs in the United States and Maryland as a whole. These laws are in place to protect the economy, to protect vulnerable people from a dependency (as well as their families), and to bring those who bring drugs into the country illegally to justice. With over 5,000 special agents across the country which are proactively reducing the amount of drugs and drug traffickers on the streets, it has been said that the DEA has played a key part in controlling the drug situation in Maryland during its 36-year history.

 Other organisations which are scattered across the state are Christian rehab centres. Like secular rehabs, their principle aim is to allow people to overcome any dependencies to drugs they have in a secure environment where they can be looked after by medical professionals.

 There are not many differences that draw Christian clinics apart from those clinics that do not represent a religious denomination. The only principle change is that Christian rehabs aim to allow the people they treat to obtain a religious awareness by visiting chapels, conducting Biblical studies and receiving counselling sessions which are from a pastoral perspective. The amount of success which Christian rehabs have had has been seen to be remarkable and this is why they are increasingly becoming more popular across Maryland and across the United States.

 Thankfully, there is not a 'one size fits all' attitude to rehabilitation centres, with each clinic offering a personalised method of treatment to the addicts who come through their doors, based on their circumstances. Because the dependencies which are seen can be entirely different, as well as the severity of the dependencies in question, this can be a necessary measure in ensuring that the best care is given to those who need it the most.

 The good thing is that all of these authorities are easily accessible if you have an issue which you need to have addressed. Maryland is a state which is trying to reduce the amount of drugs which is affecting the lives of its residents, as dependencies on drugs like marijuana, heroin and methamphetamines can go on to have a negative impact on the sense of family values in a state, the strength of the economy and other factors which include the reliability that an employer can have on their employees. Increasingly, the term 'drug-free' is being emphasised across the state, in workplaces, in rehabilitation centres and in local communities - in the hope that the problem can be reduced significantly.
