BACK STORY: HOW DO DRUGS GET INTO LOUISIANA AND HOW DOES CHRISTIAN REHAB IN LOUISIANA HELP THE PROBLEM?

There are hundreds of thousands of people who are dependent on drugs on Louisiana, and well over 100,000 people who need help for a dependency that they have acquired to an illegal substance. As you know - there is no smoke without fire, and one of the principle reasons why nearly 4% of
Louisiana's population go through these difficulties every year is because of the drug trafficking
that takes place in the state, making illicit substances available to the masses. In this report, we look closer at how drugs are being smuggled into the state of Louisiana and how they are becoming readily available to the most vulnerable of people.

Louisiana's location makes it a hub for drug trafficking

One of the reasons that illegal substances come into Louisiana in the first place is because of its location, and the fact that one of the main borders of the state is one of the largest seas on the planet - a sea which is known as the Gulf of Mexico. With New Orleans, one of the main areas of Louisiana, being a vital location where exports are received into the United States, it is fair to say that many deliveries of illegal substances are likely to go amiss in the all-important New Orleans Port.

There are rivers that run through the state, in addition to a vast variety of rail-links and roads. Louisiana is one of the key areas for drugs to go on to be distributed to neighbouring states from Southern America, with a large amount of the drugs that pass through the state remaining in the state for the consumption of the addicts amongst the 4.5 million Louisianans that live there.

The fact that there are so many drugs available on the retail market for vulnerable people to purchase means that the authorities need to be extremely alert, and need to be able to target likely areas where confiscations can be made. In 2006 alone, this system was being proved to work, with 2.8 tonnes of marijuana being confiscated and nearly 80,000 Ecstasy tablets being withdrawn from circulation in Louisiana. Even though this has greatly reduced the amount of drugs which is readily available for people to purchase on the streets, it is a sad fact that the problem still remains - and it is still quite prominent.

How Christian drug rehabilitation clinics are helping

The large amount of rehabilitation clinics which are available for those who want to make a change to their lives are working around the clock in order to welcome them through the doors and to get them on the road to sobriety. Unfortunately, it isn't always easy to achieve sobriety without medical attention and without treatments which can ease the withdrawal symptoms that many addicts face once they begin to reduce their consumption of the drug they are dependent on. This is why there is constant medical attention for those who are going through the first few days and weeks which can be exceptionally difficult for those who have been reliant on an illegal substance for a long time.

The severity of withdrawal can depend on a variety of factors. One of the main factors is the type
of the drug that the addict in question is dependent on, as some drugs are more powerful than others - or they have a longer half-life, in more scientific terms. Additionally, those who have been consuming a drug for a longer period of time prior to giving up will find it a lot harder to overcome their addiction because of the way they have become chemically dependent on the drug over time. Another contributing factor can be how intensively the drug in question has been used - those who take a drug more than once a day will likely to be affected more than those who take the drug a couple of times a week.

Regardless of the circumstances that have resulted in a person having an addiction in the first place, Christian rehabs in Louisiana have been taking a proactive approach to allowing people to overcome their addiction, irrespective of the drug they have consumed and as well as how they have consumed it. With group counselling a common option for those who attend the inpatient programs provided by some Christian clinics, some addicts have been finding reassurance in the way that they can meet people who have had to endure similar experiences to them - and have been learning from the experience of others.
