HOW CHRISTIAN REHAB IN COLORADO IS RAISING SUBSTANCE ABUSE AWARENESS

Like in other US states, Colorado's substance abuse statistics are high. Even though drugs do play a role in the admissions that rehabilitations see on an annual basis, it is alcohol dependency levels which have been seen to be unusually high. Between 2004 and 2006, the number of admissions that were made into Colorado Christian rehab clinics went up from 45,791 to 49,627, with the number peaking at 50,262 in 2005.

Because of the situation that Coloradans have found themselves in, there are organisations which have been raising substance abuse awareness in the area. The hope that these organisations have is that they can help to reduce the amount of people who turn to substances like drugs and alcohol in their times of trouble, or can help people to get support if they are dependent on a particular substance. In this report, we are going to look in-depth at some of the organisations which can help. They are:

The Colorado Drug-Free Workplace Alliance.
This particular organisation has been running for the best part of 25 years and has been helping businesses of all sizes to reduce the negative impact that that illegal substances like drugs and alcohol can have on their workplace in general.

The organisation works by giving employers more awareness on the world of drugs and how it can affect their employees, because they may not be knowledgeable themselves on how much drugs can take a hold on somebody's life. Additionally, training can be given to employers so they can employ a code amongst their staff that promotes a drug-free environment. Drug testing can also become an option, as from there, employees who need help because of their dependency can get support. The alliance even helps employers to get drug-dependent employees back to work on terms to suit both parties.

The Colorado Alliance for Drug Endangered Children.
If a child is in a family where drugs are commonly consumed, dealt with or even cultivated, they are considered to be a drug-endangered child on the whole. The Colorado Alliance for Drug Endangered Children endeavours to break the effect that drugs can have on a child's development and the effect that it can have on their future by preventing any further substance abuse and by offering treatment to the entire family that it is affected a dependency.

The hope is that once Coloradians have had their awareness of substance abuse raised (through initiatives like the Drug-Free Work Week which is being held by the Colorado Drug-Free Workplace Alliance), more people will turn towards rehabilitation centres if they believe that they have a problem which needs to be addressed.

There are a variety of rehab centres which specialise in allowing an addict and their families to move past a drug dependency, which can affect the lives of everyone who knows an addict. There are Colorado Christian rehabs which have been established in the hope of counselling an addict's family and friends as well as the addicts themselves in the hope that a better understanding can be obtained about the implications that drugs can have and what their role is in helping an addict to move forward.

In counselling sessions that an addict's friends and family have with a counsellor, an emphasis is also placed on finding out what it is that triggers the addict to consume drugs. If there is a dispute in the family, stress at work or bereavement, an addict may feel like substance abuse is the only thing they have. Once the trigger of the addict has been found, work can then be conducted to ensure that an addict has other ways of dealing with a problem which causes them distress other than drugs, which can have a devastating effect in the long run.

This is why institutions like the Drug-Free Workplace Alliance are important. These alliances can allow workplaces to keep an eye on the employees who work there to see if they could be enduring high levels of stress from the work that they do on a regular basis or because of their personal lives. There are some people who are not willing to talk about the problems that they have openly either, and this can be why drugs are so common in Colorado and around the US.

Raising awareness of substance abuse is a tough thing to do, but the more it is achieved, the likelier it is that more people will look to seek help from rehabilitation centres.
