A CLOSER LOOK AT ALASKA'S CHRISTIAN REHAB SCHEMES

Just because a state is smaller (in this case, Alaska has a population of just over 675,000 according to 2006 data) it doesn't mean that there are not significant problems which need to be addressed relating to drug dependencies. The fact that there are over 75 rehabilitation clinics in this state alone is testimony to this and in this report, we are going to be investigating what such Christian rehabs in Alaska can do for those who are dependent on an illicit drug.

Alaska's back story

Just looking at a map of Alaska, you can go on to see how isolated this state is in comparison with other states that are on the mainland. This has been seen as one of the main reasons why drugs pose such a big problem here. There have been a variety of media reports that have highlighted the issue of drug smugglers entering the state, with the possibility that drug abuse could stem from the distribution of the illegal drugs they bring around Alaska.

This supports the theory that Alaska is one of the last states in the country to experience the shock waves of a new drug or substance which is doing the rounds in America. Unfortunately, the fact that Alaska are last doesn't mean that the implications addicts face won't be the same: in fact, proportionately, Alaska's levels of rape and suicide are higher than those of most US states. Many people have been asking themselves just this: to what extent are drugs to blame for this data?

A suggestion is that Alaska's problem with drug abuse is here to say. This can be compounded by the fact that an alarming 13% of Alaskan high school students have sampled marijuana before they even hit adolescence. If the statistics are so high among one of the youngest age groups for drug abuse, what is the hope for the future?

The answer to the problem

This is where drug rehabilitation clinics come in that specialise in ensuring that addicts get on the road to recovery. Even though there are 75 rehabilitation clinics in Alaska as we told you earlier, the amount of clinics that specialise in the treatment of drugs alone is understood to be two-thirds of this.

One of the first steps to determining the type of treatment which is needed for a drug problem is by determining the severity of the drug. Whereas people who only consume drugs more recreationally are likelier to only require group meetings or an outpatient program, those who are highly dependent on drugs and are severely addicted might need to consider a more intensive type of treatment.

For those who are religious, there is Christian rehab in Alaska to consider, too. With an emphasis on preaching the teachings of God during the treatment process, many addicts can find the presence of religion during their time of need humbling. Should an addict opt for an inpatient program, there are frequent group sessions where fellow Alaskans who have been enduring similar problems with drugs can share their stories.

A key benefit to opting for a Christian rehabilitation clinic is this: there are higher amounts of support available for those who opt for Christian rehab at the conclusion of their treatments. It has been noted that one of the main disadvantages of an inpatient program is that addicts are removed from their lives and from the everyday situations that trigger their drug use. This is why the support of an addict's local church and frequent visits to a sobriety group can significantly reduce the chances of the addict going into a relapse.

Christian rehabs and their secular counterparts are trying to prevent a big problem from affecting the future of young Alaskans. With roughly 45% of high school students confirming that they tried marijuana at least once, there are fears that this number could be reflected as an increase in the amount of people who consume drugs in the future.

Together, rehabilitation clinics and authorities that include the Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement are taking proactive steps to reducing a problem that is affecting the lives of addicts, as well as their friends and family. Unfortunately, as we learned earlier, the statistics that demonstrate that Alaskan levels of suicide are high indicate that the clock is ticking for those who are addicted to a substance but do not know where to turn. It is the job of the rehabilitation clinic to help them in their time of need.
