Detoxification In Addiction Rehab Ontario
Throughout the world, the number of people addicted to alcohol or some other drug is alarmingly high. What is troubling is not just the statistics but the underlying threat to society as a whole. Drug and alcohol abuse leads to a path of death and destruction both for the victim as well as their families directly and to society since members of the society become victims of the crimes these addicts invariably commit to feed their addiction. Crime rates are always higher in areas with higher percentages of drug and alcohol addicts. That is why dependence on these substances can be disastrous for the whole society.
Ontario has a population of 12 million. 7.3% of this population is addicted to alcohol, some without even realizing it. Similarly, 1.3% of people take cocaine and heroin on a regular basis. These statistics might seem scary but what is scarier is the background behind such addictive behavior. It is one thing to have a drink occasionally or try coke occasionally and it is completely different to be dependent on this substance to the extent of not being able to function like a normal human being.
For such addicts it is best they get into treatment at the soonest. If not capable of taking a decision themselves, it is for the family or friends to get him to a rehab. Initially an assessment is carried out by the organization to find out the extent of addiction and to determine ways and means to resolve it. In most early detections, a 100% recovery rate is expected. Additionally, counseling is available at home which makes it all the more encouraging for people who find it hard to visit a psychologist outside. Great care is taken to involve the close family members and friends in the whole process, from rehabilitation to healing. Once the drug or alcohol rehab is complete, there are programs to ensure that relapses do not occur. There are 14 centers all over Ontario that deal with addiction issues. As such it should not be difficult for an addict to find one located close to where he lives.
There are various other centers in Ontario all dealing with different aspects of the problem. Some are merely detox centers that help rid the body of the harmful effects of alcohol and drug abuse and the recovered addict can undertake psychological counseling from other professional counselors. Others help in supporting the patient right from addiction detox to counselling and other therapy till he recovers completely and can live on his own. Certain treatment centers use medication to help the patient recover from the addictive habit, coupled with therapy. However detox is the first and most important stage to recovery and it is also the most difficult. It is given importance in all centers where there will be a medical team supervising the process.
There are over 60 residential programs alone that do not require the patient to go to a clinic. 26 aftercare centers are also operating in Ontario. The patient and his family need to study each program carefully to find out which one suits them best. There are even Cocaine Anonymous meetings for those who want to find comfort by sharing with others who are in a similar position.
In some cases, it becomes very hard for the patient to decide which program to pick. It is best to select a program or a center with facilities and treatments that rid you of your drug habit and help ease your way into the normalcy of everyday life. It is also important to see if the program has a good counseling and guidance panel. That is exceedingly crucial for the prevention of relapses.
